Intro to Collision Welding
This course provides the opportunity for the learner to develop the knowledge, skills, process, and understanding of welding and cutting commonly used for collision repair. Students will learn to set up, use, and maintain welding equipment and weld a variety of types and thicknesses of steels using GMAW (MIG) welding equipment in the flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead position. Methods of cutting covered include mechanical, oxy-fuel, and plasma arc.
Intro to Cybersecurity
Learners will develop an understanding of cybersecurity methods, terms, and key technical concepts to identify and protect assets against attacks.
Intro to Dairy Science
This course provides basic knowledge of the dairy science field. Topics include animal health, anatomy and physiology, genetics and reproduction, basic breed characteristics and animal feedstuffs.
Intro to Diesel Mechanics
Introduces the student to the tools and equipment used in a heavy-duty diesel shop, vehicle classifications, fasteners and repair hardware, drilling and tapping techniques, broken bolt extraction, and basic shop equipment operation. (Prerequisite:10-412-101 Diesel Service Fundamentals)
Intro to DMS
Introduces learners to the field of diagnostic medical sonography. Explores the duties and functions of the diagnostic medical sonographer as well as the historical background. Learners examine the other imaging modalities as they relate to sonography. Includes principles of patient care and legal and ethical issues related to sonography. (Prerequisite: Applied to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography OR Echocardiography Program; minimum HESI test score of 87)
Intro to Electrical Systems
Focus on the theory of electricity. This will include studying Ohms, Kirchoff's, and Newton's Laws and how they apply to the circuits on various electrical systems on a vehicle. Students will apply these theories to troubleshoot simple circuits. (Enrolled in Diesel program, Prerequisite: 10-412-101 Diesel Service Fundamentals; Enrolled in the Automotive Maintenance or Collision program, there is no prerequisite for this course)
Intro to Engineering
This course offers students an orientation to careers in the engineering disciplines. Activities will be focused on academic and career planning and exploration, with an emphasis on understanding similarities and differences in the work of technicians and engineers. Students will become familiar with different engineering pathways as well as transfer opportunities in these areas.
Intro to Environmental Science
An introduction to the basic principles of environmental science including ecology, energy, resources, waste management, air, water, and soil pollution.
Intro to Firefighting
This course introduces the student to the organization and management of a fire and emergency services department and the relationship of government agencies to the fire service. Emphasis is placed on fire and emergency service, ethics, and leadership from the perspective of the company officer.
Intro to Health Informatics
Emphasizes the role of information technology in healthcare through an investigation of the electronic health record (EHR), business, and health information software applications. Learners will develop skills to assist in enterprise information management and database architecture design and implementation. (Prerequisite: 10-530-162, Foundations of HIM; 10-501-107, Digital Literacy for Healthcare)
Intro to Interviewing & Counseling Skills
Analyze foundational skills in the counseling relationship. Analyze the stages of the helping processes and the roles professionals play in the processes. Analyze the importance of establishing therapeutic relationships. Apply basic counseling techniques. Apply interviewing and counseling skills through mock counseling sessions and personal experience reflections. Examine issues of boundaries and ethics. (Prerequisite: High school GPA greater/equal to 2.6; OR ACT Reading score greater/equal to 16 AND English greater/equal to 18; OR Next Gen Reading score greater/equal to 250 AND Writing score greater/equal to 260; OR "preparatory course(s)"; OR successful completion of English Comp 1 with a C or better.
