  3. Secure DD214. This document verifies your service and is crucial to access benefits.
  4. Submit information. Complete the and send with DD214 to VeteranServices@nwtc.edu or drop off at our Veterans Resource Center.
  5. Choose benefits. Explore valuable VA and state resources below for active military, veterans, spouses, and dependents.
  6. Submit Certification of Eligibility (COE). After receiving the COE from the Federal or Wisconsin VA, submit it to VeteranServices@nwtc.edu upon starting your program or course. NOTE: You only need to complete this step once, unless you change your program or benefits.
  7. Tell us what benefits you will use: Complete the Veteran Benefits Certification form each semester or when your benefits change.

Benefits for active military

Selected Reserve/National Guard Educational Assistance (Ch. 1606 – MGIB-SR)

Who qualifies?  

This benefit is for members of the Selected Reserve or National Guard who meet all these requirements: 

  • Signed a six-year service commitment in the Selected Reserve after June 30, 1985.  
  • Completed Initial Active-Duty Training (IADT). 
  • Earned a high school diploma or GED before completing IADT. 
  • In good standing with your unit and currently drilling. 

What it covers:  

The VA will send you a monthly payment based on the number of credits you're taking each semester. To receive your payment you'll need to verify your enrollment with the VA鈥&苍产蝉辫;every month 

How to apply:  

  1.  
    • Look for the "Find your Education Benefits form" section. 
    • Answer a few questions to be directed to the right form. 
  2. Complete and Send to 糖心Vlog官方:  
    • Once you have your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) for Montgomery GI Bill庐 鈥 Selected Reserve (the VA will mail you this after processing your application), send it, along with any other required documents, to VeteranServices@nwtc.edu .

Wisconsin National Guard Tuition Grant

Who qualifies?  

  • Actively drilling Wisconsin National Guard member (enlisted only; officers are not eligible).
  • Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) at 糖心Vlog官方 for each semester you seek reimbursement.
  • Have not yet earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree.
  • Not using VetEd or the Wisconsin GI Bill庐 for the same semester.

What it covers:  

The Tuition Grant reimburses remaining tuition costs ( Programs Fees only ) after all other tuition-specific benefits are applied (e.g., tuition specific scholarships). Program fees only鈥攄oes not include books, supplies, or other segregated fees.

How to apply:  

  1. Submit the digital  as soon as you are enrolled in classes:
  2. 糖心Vlog官方 will complete its portion of your digital application and forward it to the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs.
    • Important : Applications submitted more than 90 days after the end of the semester will not be accepted by the Department of Military Affairs.

Department of Defense (DOD) Tuition Assistance (TA)

Who qualifies?

Active-duty service members using DOD Tuition Assistance (TA)鈥must get approval from their Education Services Officer (ESO) before enrolling鈥in classes. 

What it covers:

The DOD pays your school directly for eligible tuition expenses under their TA program. 

How to apply:

  1. Get Approval:鈥&苍产蝉辫;Talk to your commanding officer (CO) or education services officer (ESO) for details on your branch's TA application process and get pre-approved to use TA. 
  2. Apply Through Your Branch:鈥&苍产蝉辫;Follow your branch's specific application process (see links below for each branch). 
  3. Inform 糖心Vlog官方:鈥&苍产蝉辫;Once approved, email Student Finance at StudentFinance@nwtc.edu to let them know you'll be using TA.

Department of Defense Voluntary Education Partnership Policy Statement

In accordance with Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1322.25, Voluntary Education Programs, paragraph 1.c.(1)(b), Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, as an institution providing education programs through the DoD Tuition Assistance (TA) Program, does not use unfair, deceptive, and abusive recruiting practices. 鈥疘n accordance with DoD MOU paragraph 3.j.(3), Northeast Wisconsin Technical College refrains 鈥渇rom high-pressure recruitment tactics such as making multiple unsolicited contacts (three or more), including contacts by phone, email, or in person, and engaging in same-day recruitment and registration for the purpose of securing Service member enrollments.鈥 

Benefits for veterans

In accordance with Title 38 U.S.C. 搂 3679(e), Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (糖心Vlog官方) will not impose any penalty鈥攊ncluding the assessment of late fees, denial of access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities, or the requirement that a covered individual borrow additional funds鈥攄ue to the delayed disbursement of funding from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

This policy applies to all students at 糖心Vlog官方 who are entitled to educational assistance under Chapter 31 (Veteran Readiness and Employment) or Chapter 33 (Post-9/11 GI Bill庐) and submit a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or Statement of Benefits from the VA and submit a written request to use such entitlement (e.g., 糖心Vlog官方鈥檚 VA Benefits Request Form).

While awaiting VA benefits, students remain responsible for any portion of tuition and fees not covered by VA funding.

This includes but is not limited to: Costs beyond VA benefit limits (such as housing, books, or additional fees).

Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Ch. 33)

Who qualifies?  

  • Served at least 90 days active duty (not 鈥&苍产蝉辫;basic training) after 9/11/2001. 
  • Served 30+ continuous days with a service-connected disability. 
  • Received a Purple Heart after 9/11/2001. 

What it covers:  

  • Tuition and fees. 
  • Up to $1,000/year for books and supplies. 
  • Monthly housing allowance (if attending school more than half-time). 

How to apply:  

  1. Get Your Certificate of Eligibility (COE): , find the "Find your Education Benefits form" section, and answer the questions to get the right form. The VA will mail your COE after processing your application. 
  2. Submit Your COE to 糖心Vlog官方:鈥&苍产蝉辫;Once you receive your COE, send it to鈥&苍产蝉辫;VeteranServices@nwtc.edu 

Montgomery GI Bill® (Ch. 30 - MGIB)

Who qualifies?  

  • Served at least two years active duty with an honorable discharge 
  • Contributed to the MGIB during your first 12 months of service 

What it covers:  

The VA pays you a monthly benefit based on your contributions and your course load. 

How to apply:  

  1. Get Your Certificate of Eligibility (COE):鈥&苍产蝉辫;, find the "Find your Education Benefits form" section, and answer the questions to get the right form. The VA will mail your COE after processing your application. 
  2. Submit Your COE to 糖心Vlog官方:鈥&苍产蝉辫;Once you receive your COE, send it to鈥&苍产蝉辫;VeteranServices@nwtc.edu 

VA Veteran Readiness & Employment (Ch. 31 – VR&E)

Who qualifies?  

  • Veterans with an honorable discharge. 
  • Service-connected disability rating of at least 10% from the VA. 
  • Have applied for Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) services. 

What it covers:  

VR&E is vocational rehabilitation, but it can help with education too! The program may cover tuition, fees, books, supplies, and even pay you a monthly stipend while you take classes. 

How to apply:  

  1. Apply Online:鈥&苍产蝉辫;Log in to your eBenefits account and apply for VR & E. 
  2. Connect with 糖心Vlog官方: After program approval, send your class schedule to your VR&E Counselor. They'll send authorization to 糖心Vlog官方's Veterans Resource Center. 

Wisconsin GI Bill® for Veterans

Who qualifies?  

  • The veteran must be a current Wisconsin resident and currently living in Wisconsin at time of applying and lived here for three years before starting a semester. 
  • Served in the military and met one of these requirements: 
    • 90+ days active duty during wartime. 
    • Service in a crisis zone. 
    • Two+ consecutive years active duty. 
    • Discharged for disability, hardship, or force reduction. 
    • Have an honorable or general-under-honorable discharge. 

Important Note:鈥&苍产蝉辫;You must use all available federal Post-9/11 GI Bill庐 benefits before using the WI GI Bill庐. However, you can use both if you received less than 100% of the Post-9/11 GI Bill庐 benefits. 

What it covers:  

  • Program and material fees portion of tuition (does not cover all tuition fees or books). 

How to apply:  

  1. Head to鈥&苍产蝉辫;:鈥&苍产蝉辫;鈥疶his is the quickest way to get approved. 
  2. Register or Log In:鈥&苍产蝉辫;Create an account if you don't have one already. 
  3. Complete the Online Application:鈥&苍产蝉辫;Fill out the online application. 
  4. Wait for WDVA Approval:鈥&苍产蝉辫;Once approved by the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA), continue to the next steps.

Wisconsin Retraining Grant

Who qualifies?  

Contact the Department of Workforce Development's veterans employment representative at 920-448-6783 to see if you meet the eligibility requirements. In the meantime, you can .  

What it covers:  

Are you an unemployed or underemployed veteran looking to retrain for a new career? This grant can help ease the financial burden while you get back on your feet. You may be eligible for up to $3,000 per year for a maximum of two years to help cover the costs of retraining programs. 

How to apply:  

  1. Start by Calling:鈥&苍产蝉辫;Get the ball rolling by contacting the DWD's veterans employment representative at 920-448-6783. They'll help you begin the application process. 
  2. Complete Your Part:鈥&苍产蝉辫;Fill鈥痮ut the application with your personal information. 
  3. 糖心Vlog官方 Helps You Out:鈥&苍产蝉辫;Bring the completed application to 糖心Vlog官方's Welcome Center. Your academic advisor, the 糖心Vlog官方 Financial Aid Office, and a school certifying official from the 糖心Vlog官方 Veterans Resource Center will complete the rest of the application for you. 
  4. Application Sent:鈥&苍产蝉辫;The 糖心Vlog官方 Veterans Resource Center will submit your application to the WI Department of Veterans Affairs for processing. 
  5. Second Payment:鈥&苍产蝉辫;There's additional paperwork for your second year of funding. Contact the Department of Workforce Development's veterans employment representative again to get the second form. Once completed, bring it to the 糖心Vlog官方 Veterans Resource Center for processing. 

VetEd

Who qualifies?  

This benefit is for veterans who haven't earned a bachelor's degree yet. Call the Department of Workforce Development's veterans employment representative at 920-448-6783 to see if you qualify. .

What it covers:  

This program reimburses you based on a credit-bank system connected to your active-duty service length. Basically, the longer you served, the more financial help you may receive. 

How to apply:  

  1. Call to Start:鈥&苍产蝉辫;Get the process going by contacting the DWD's veterans employment representative at 920-448-6783 . They'll help you begin the application process. 

Benefits for spouses and dependents

Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance (Ch. 35 - DEA)

Who qualifies?  

This benefit is for鈥痗hildren or spouses of a veteran who: 

  • Is鈥痯ermanently and totally disabled due to a service-connected disability. 
  • Died while on active duty or as a result of a service-connected disability. 

If neither is true, you may be able to receive鈥&苍产蝉辫;red Post-9/11 GI Bill庐 benefits from a veteran. 

What it covers:  

The VA will send you a monthly payment based on the number of credits you're taking each semester. 

How to apply:  

  1. Head to the鈥&苍产蝉辫;:鈥&苍产蝉辫;Find the "Find your Education Benefits form" section and answer the questions to get the right form. 
  2. Get Your Certificate of Eligibility (COE):鈥&苍产蝉辫;The VA will mail your COE after processing your online application. 
  3. Submit Your COE to 糖心Vlog官方:鈥&苍产蝉辫;Once you receive your COE, send it to VeteranServices@nwtc.edu

Wisconsin GI Bill® for Veteran's Spouses and Dependents

奥丑辞鈥痲耻补濒颈蹿颈别蝉?&苍产蝉辫; 

This benefit is for spouses and children of veterans who meet all these requirements: 

  • Veteran's Disability: The veteran must have a service-connected disability rating of at least 30% from the VA. 
  • Wisconsin veteran residency eligibility must be established in one of the following two ways: 
    1. The first way a veteran may qualify is if the veteran (all the following must be met):
      • Served in the U.S. armed forces, the National Guard, or a reserve component of the U.S. armed forces.
      • Entered service as a Wisconsin resident or resided in Wisconsin for at least three consecutive years immediately preceding the beginning of any semester or session for which the veteran鈥檚 spouse or child registers at an institution.
      • Has been awarded at least a 30% service-connected disability rating by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
    2. The second way a veteran may qualify is if the veteran (all of the following must be met):
      • Served on active duty in the U.S. armed forces under honorable conditions.
      • Entered active duty as a Wisconsin resident or resided in Wisconsin for at least three consecutive years after attaining the age of 18.
      • Died on active duty, died as the result of a service-connected disability, or died in the line of duty while on active or inactive duty for training purposes.
      • Died while a resident of Wisconsin.

How to鈥痑pply:  

Work with Your Veteran: 鈥疎ligibility for the WI GI Bill庐 involves two parts. You'll need to work with the veteran to determine their eligibility for benefits. 

  1. Veteran Creates MyWisVets.com Account:
    • The veteran will create an account on . 
    • They will upload required documents like DD214, marriage license/birth certificate, and a copy of their VA disability letter. 
  2. Provide Additional Documents:
    • You (the spouse or dependent) will need to provide the college with a marriage license or birth certificate (if applicable). Submit both if sponsoring veteran is a step-parent. 
    • Complete the and send it to VeteranServices@nwtc.edu
  3. Wisconsin Certificate of Eligibility (COE):
    • Once everything is processed, the WDVA will issue a WDVA2031 form, the Wisconsin Certificate of Eligibility (COE).

MyCAA Scholarship for Spouses

奥丑辞鈥痲耻补濒颈蹿颈别蝉?&苍产蝉辫; 

Are you a spouse of an active-duty, National Guard or Reserve service member? You may be eligible for the MyCAA Scholarship if: 

  • Your military spouse is on Title 10 military orders (including National Guard and Reserves). 
  • Your spouse is in  pay grades E-1 through E-9, W-1 through W-3 or O-1 through O-3.
  • You can start and complete your coursework while your spouse is deployed. 
  • You have completed high school or obtained a GED. 

What it鈥痗overs:  

The helps pay tuition costs for programs leading to an associate degree (excluding General Studies, Liberal Arts, and Interdisciplinary Studies without a concentration). 

How to鈥痑pply:  

  1. Work with Your Advisor (Before Applying):
    • Partner with your 糖心Vlog官方 academic advisor to develop an Education and Training Plan (E&TP) that aligns with your career goals. 
    • Upload your E&TP to your for review (approval takes up to 14 days). 
  2. Inform 糖心Vlog官方 Student Finance (After Approval):
    • Once your E&TP is approved, let 糖心Vlog官方 Student Finance know you'll be using MyCAA by emailing StudentFinance@nwtc.edu
